Garmin AXIS System Planner

AXIS System for Certified Aircraft

Build a preliminary Garmin AXIS hardware package in the same logical order as the official Build-A-System Guide, see the estimated hardware list-price total, then send it to RWAS for compatibility review and an equipment and installation quote.

This is preliminary hardware planning—not an approved configuration or installed quote. The planner surfaces advisories but does not perform full compatibility validation.

All prices shown are manufacturer list prices. Discounted equipment pricing may be available after RWAS reviews a submitted preliminary build. Prices are subject to change and exclude tax, freight, installation labor, fabrication, wiring, configuration, certification and additional required hardware.

Step 1

Select Displays

Choose up to four AXIS displays. Mix formats as panel space and the approved configuration allow. No AXIS display contains the autopilot itself. When connected to a GFC 500, the selected AXIS GDU displays flight-director cues, autopilot modes and status; the separate GMC 507 remains the dedicated autopilot mode controller and is included with the aircraft-specific GFC 500 package selected in Step 5.

Step 1A

Display Install Kits and GAD 29D

Each display requires the correct new-install or G3X Touch upgrade kit. IFR GPS displays require a GA 35S antenna. Select one printed-material kit per aircraft. A GAD 29D is required when a GDU 116B interfaces with a supported external GPS/NAV navigator through serial/ARINC 429, such as a GTN 6XX/7XX, GNS 4XXW/5XXW or GNS 480. It is generally not required with a GDU 116C or GDU 116NC, or when a supported navigator uses a direct HSDB interface and no ARINC conversion is needed. With a G5 standby, the GAD 29D backup navigation path is optional/recommended rather than universally required. A GI 275 can receive independent navigator data directly by HSDB, RS-232 or ARINC 429, depending on the navigator. Do not add a GAD 29D merely because an external navigator or standby instrument is installed. Step 2

System Sensors

Choose at least one sensor LRU kit and its matching installation kit. A certified system may use a maximum of two ADAHRS, one of each listed sensor-kit type.

Step 3

Standby Flight Instrument

A standby flight instrument is required. Choose G5 or GI 275; use the GI 275 +AP model when retaining a compatible non-Garmin autopilot. A GI 275 standby installation also requires a GPS source. This may be provided by a direct approved interface to a Garmin GPS 175, GNX 375, GNC 355(A), GTN 6XX/7XX/Xi, GNS 4XXW/5XXW or GNS 480. If none of those navigators is directly interfaced to the GI 275, include a Garmin glareshield-mounted VFR GPS antenna (P/N 011-04036-10, or P/N 011-04036-00 with TNC/BNC adapter 330-01754-00). The AXIS-to-GI 275 HSDB standby connection alone does not satisfy this GPS-source requirement.

Step 4

Engine / Airframe Interface

Typically one GEA module is required per engine. GEA 110 requires an AXIS display with integrated COMM or NAV/COMM.

Step 4A

Engine Sensors

Select the sensor kit appropriate for the installed Lycoming or Continental engine. RWAS will confirm any additional sensors.

Step 5

Autopilot

Select the aircraft-specific GFC 500 system from Garmin’s July Rev 1 2026 catalog. Each system price includes the GMC 507, applicable GSA 28 servos and the Garmin installation kits listed for that configuration.

Catalog pricing excludes the approved AHRS source because the selected AXIS system supplies it. RWAS must verify the current AML, MDL, equipment list, installation manual and aircraft-specific addendum before quoting or installation.

Step 6

IFR GPS, Radios and Audio Panel

Skip external equipment already provided by an integrated AXIS display. Otherwise select the navigator, radios and audio panel needed for the mission.

Step 7

Transponder and Datalinks

Select ADS-B Out/In and weather options. Remote GDL units require the connector kit; SiriusXM receivers require the GA 24 TNC antenna.

Active Traffic

GTS 8XX active traffic is compatible through the approved HSDB interface path. GTS 820 is the current model with a published July 2026 list price; only one ADS-B In source can be configured at a time.

Garmin GI 260 AOA planning

Complete GI 260 AOA packages include an indicator, GAP 26 probe and required air-data hardware. Because AXIS can display AOA with compatible sensors, RWAS reviews duplicate components, aircraft eligibility, approved data, voltage and probe heating.

Garmin GSB 15 USB charging

The GSB 15 USB-A/USB-C rear-input charging port is optional panel equipment. RWAS confirms aircraft voltage, circuit protection, connectors, available panel space and installation details.
